Basketball Teams Roll Up Wins on the Road and at Home

Collin College men's and women's basketball has collected a lot of W's in the past week. In a six-game stretch, Collin's teams had only one loss, coming when the Lady Cougars faced off with a perennial powerhouse. 

Collin's men turned in wins of 40-plus points against Brookhaven and the Paul Quinn JV and a comfortable 82-72 win over the Richland College Thunderducks. The Cougars are 5-0 for the season so far. 

The Cougars shot 40.5 percent from the field against Brookhaven in their 106-64 home win. Tajzmel Sherman put up 22 points followed by Timothy Denton and Lamont Simmons with 14 each. Denton went 2-3 from behind the arc. 

Sherman took over the next men's game, with 41 points vs. Richland College. He hit 8-14 three-pointers. Nighel Ceaser pulled down 7 rebounds, padding his team-leading season average of 7.8 per game. 

The Collin men hit the century mark again on Nov. 14 with a 104-54 win over the Paul Quinn College JV squad. The team shot 52.8 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point land in the decisive win. 

The Lady Cougars split their games on a road trip to Tyler, falling to Angelina College 68-78 and defeating Tyler Junior College 76-71. Collin closed out its road stint with an 81-56 win over Paris Junior College. Home games will resume for the Lady Cougars starting Tuesday, Nov. 20 against Murray State College. 

Destiny Thurman and Briana Marshall each scored 15 points in Collin's tight game against Angelina College. Thurman also led the team in assists and steals in the game with 6 and 5 respectively. Jasmine Jackson pulled down 9 boards to lead in rebounds. She leads the team in rebounds with a 7.2 per game average, just ahead of Jalah Walton with 7 per game. 

Thurman had 28 points in Collin's 76-71 win over Tyler Junior College. Jackson led defensive stats with 7 rebounds and 3 steals in the game. The team shot 39.2 percent from the field and 77.3 percent from the stripe in the win, with seven players stepping up to the free throw line 44 times in the game. 

Walton and Jackson led scoring in Collin's win over Paris Junior College, with 22 and 21 points respectively. The Lady Cougars shot 51.6 percent from the field and went 15-19 from the line.
