Collin College's tennis held its annual Super Six (photos), Feb. 15-17 , with Texas Wesleyan, Texas A&M University-Texarkana, Jacksonville College, University of Texas-Permian Basin and Ouachita Baptist coming to Plano Campus. Collin's men split their matches while the women's team came away with a 6-3 win over Ouachita Baptist.
The victory made three wins in a row for the women's team, who had defeated Iowa Central Community College 6-1 and Barton Community College 5-4 the previous weekend. The team is 7-4 overall.
Collin's men defeated Jacksonville College and Texas Wesleyan University 9-0 and 8-1 respectively during the Super Six, but gave up wins to Texas A&M University-Texarkana (8-1) and University of Texas-Permian Basin (7-2). The team is 5-7 overall.
"We stepped it up on the court," Coach Marty Berryman said of the Super Six. "We met the match and I was extremely pleased."
He said the team is having great workouts and sees things improving as the season progresses.
"I think that after Spring Break, we will be ready to go on the physical part of it and we will have gained more experience. We are a freshman-dominated team and they are learning what it takes in men's and women's college tennis."
Collin's teams will play Tyler Junior College on the Road, Feb. 22 and will host Seward College at home, Feb. 28. Seward is a Top 5 team on both sides and should provide some stiff competition for Collin.
Attendance is free for all Collin College Tennis events.
