Coach Jim Sigona could reach 600 wins as head coach of the Collin College men's basketball team during the 2019-20 season.
Sigona is just eight wins away (592-340) from that mark and could conceivably reach it by Christmas. Asked what he thinks about the possibility, he just laughed and said, "It just means I'm older."
Pressed on it, he added, "It's funny. I guess I have been doing it so long that I really don't even think about it. I am just so concerned about these young men and these teams. I am just trying to win games and conference championships."
Sigona flew right past another major milestone in the 2018-19 season when he got his 600thoverall head coaching win in the season's opening conference game. The game was at home against Ranger College and it went unmarked because Sigona hadn't been tracking his win-loss record. Coach Larry Carter pointed it out to Collin College News after the season was over.
"I hadn't really thought about it or where I was (in terms of win-loss)," Sigona said.
He was also quick to note the people who played a part in that win record (currently 614-359 overall).
"It really comes down to having had some great young men play for me, as well as the assistant coaches and staff who contributed to that," he said. "It isn't just one person. It's everyone around us working together."
