Basketball Teams Fighting Through Conference

Collin's men and women's basketball teams picked up a couple of big wins Feb. 15 against Southwestern Christian College, wrapping up a couple of weeks of up-and-down action. 

Collin's women won 101-29 over the Lady Rams with Awatea Leach leading scoring with 26 points. She was followed by Lucy Ibeh with 23 points. The Lady Cougars doubled their season average of steals with 25 in the game and pulled down 46 total rebounds. 

The Lady Cougars still sit atop the Region 5 leader board with a 20-7, 11-2 record despite dealing with some late-season injuries. The women won 56-54 over Ranger College to start the month before losing a close 78-72 road game to Hill College, Feb. 5. 

The Lady Cougars handled their business against McLennan Community College 83-55 at home and won 84-68 over Temple College to get them to their game against SWCC. 

Collin's men won 81-64 over the Southwest Christian College Rams, with Orion Virden leading all scoring. Virden put up 19 points, followed by Mason Hix with 13, Nighael Ceaser with 12, and Addison Wallace with 11. The team shot 50 percent in from the field in the game. 

After a 126-50 win over East Texas Baptist University Jan. 29, the men's team fell to North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) leader Ranger with a 90-68 score. Later in the week, Hill College took the Cougars to OT in a low-scoring night with Collin coming out on top 57-53. Collin lost 73-64 to McLennan College, which holds the No. 2 NTJCAC spot, on Feb. 8. 

The Collin men held their No. 3 spot in conference with a win over Temple College, which is nipping at their heels in the No. 4 slot.  

Collin's basketball teams will face Grace College on the road tonight and Weatherford at home, Feb. 19 to close out district. The teams will each play a tune-up game for post-season at home on Feb. 26.
