Collin College’s women’s basketball captured its fourth North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference championship in five years and the Collin men have secured a second-place finish in the conference and a ticket to regionals
Conference play kicked off with 1-1 records for the Collin College men’s and women’s teams after losses on the road against a ranked Ranger College and a pair of significant home wins against Hill College.
Women’s Coach Jeff Allen and Men’s Coach Jim Sigona both said their teams are ready for the post-season, but know there are tough games ahead. “This might be the toughest regional tournament I have ever seen,” Allen said. “We are going to have to play at the highest level.”
The Cougars and Lady Cougars are just a couple of games out of first place with their final regular season conference games next week. The men’s and women’s teams both defeated Temple College Feb. 13 and split games against McClennan Community College.
Conference basketball play begins for Collin College next week, with men’s and women’s games against three North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference opponents. Both teams are excited for this section of the season to get underway.
Collin College’s men’s and women’s teams split games at their Thanksgiving tournaments Nov. 23-24, but maintain commanding win-loss records for the season so far. The Lady Cougars are 7-2 for the season and The Cougars are 7-1.
Collin College men’s and women’s basketball has collected a lot of W’s in the past week. In a six-game stretch, Collin’s teams had only one loss, coming when the Lady Cougars faced off with a perennial powerhouse.
