Tennis Teams Pick Up Wins

The Collin College men's and women's tennis teams each notched three more wins over the past two weeks. The women's record is 5-7, while the men's record is 3-8.

The women's team picked up a 4-3 win against Harding University out of Arkansas. The doubles team of Viktoriia Federova and Ekaterina Orlova won a hard-fought 6-7 match. Both players won their singles matches as well, along with Sofia Gonzalez and Jhastine Ballado.

The team's 6-1 win over Lady of the Lake University was next, with doubles wins by Orlova/Larissa Giraldi and Federova/Margaryta Bugaienko. Again, all of the winning doubles players picked up victories in singles play. Gonzalez also had a 6-1, 6-1 win.

Collin's women's team got another 8-1 win against Meridian Community College with a back-and-forth 9-8 win by Giraldi/Federova at No. 1 doubles, and dominant performances by Orlova/Ballado and Gonzalez/Bugaienko. The team picked up five singles wins, although Federova's opponent won after pushing the match to three sets.

The women's team had losses to: Midwestern State University (0-7), Barton Community College (3-6), and The University of Texas at Arlington (0-7). Most of the men's and women's team's losses this season have come against four-year schools.

On the men's side, Collin had strong 7-2 matches against Barton Community College, Meridian Community College, and Texas A&M University, Texarkana.

Against Barton, the team picked up doubles wins by Seth Seely/Djordje Kurcubic and Gianni Lopez La Mantia/Joseph Restrepo. Kurcubic, Restrepo, and Lopez La Mantia each picked up singles wins along with Tristan Vigneron and Luis Ching.

Versus Meridian, the doubles teams of Lopez La Mantia/Vigeron and Restrepo/David Palomares both got a win. Vigeron, Restrepo, Lopez La Mantia, Kurcubic, and Palomares each notched singles wins.

Seely/Kurcubic and Lopez La Mantia/Restrepo came through with doubles wins over players from Texas A&M Univeristy, Texarkana. Seely and Vigeron took their singles matches to three sets each but came away with wins. Restrepo, Lopez La Mantia, and Kurcubic also got wins in singles play.

The men's team recorded losses to: Harding University (0-7), Midwestern State University (2-5), and Our Lady of the Lake University (2-5).
