Collin College Tennis is entering its final months of play. Now is the time to catch a game and support the student athletes.

In late March, the men's and women's teams beat Jacksonville College – 9-0 for the men and 7-2 for the women – and they are both looking forward to more community college competition. The teams will face off against The University of the Ozarks, a Division 3 college, on April 11 starting at 11 a.m., then host the Southwest JUCO tournament on April 12-13. Southwest JUCO will bring teams from across the area to Plano Campus. Any tennis fan would do well to catch the action over those days.

Coach Jamie Nanez said there is the possibility of other matches – Texas Wesleyan, the University of Texas at Dallas, and Weatherford College – but they have not yet been added to the athletics calendar online. The team is also busy tuning up for the national tournament.

"We are pretty much just getting ready for nationals," Nanez said. "We are trying to up the intensity, up the practices, doing everything we need to do to get where we need to get."

He said fans in the stands would help keep the team motivated as they play.

"If we can get people out there watching and supporting us, I think it would be a pretty intense environment," Nanez said.

He said that even if the audience can't attend regular season games, the college is hosting the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) men's tennis tournament from May 13-17, and that would be an excellent opportunity to catch the men's team in action.

"Having people come out, be loud, support us, and see what the tournament is like is always beneficial," he said.
