Collin College Women's Basketball put together a 21-10 season and a trip to the North Texas Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region V Tournament. Although the team did not achieve all of its goals, Coach Jeff Allen is optimistic for the future.
"Obviously, we wanted to win the conference and go to the national tournament, but with 10 freshmen, we had a lot of learning to do," Allen said. "Overall, any time you can win 20-plus games in a college season, you have had a good year."
The team won four of its last five regular season games, defeating Hill College 94-45, winning over McLennan Community College 72-58, putting up a 95-48 win over Southwestern Christian College, beating Cisco College 75-52, and losing a tight game against Grayson College 68-61. The team lost 60-43 to No. 8 nationally ranked South Plains College in the first round of the Region V Tournament. South Plains would go on to beat McLennan in the finals of that tournament.
Coach Allen would have liked to have gone further in the tournament, but he is happy with many of his team's achievements.
"I think our team excelled in many areas," he said. "We beat McClennan twice and they won the conference this year, so we did have the talent to win the league. I think us not being consistent every game is what hurt us this year."
The talent was evident. Alisha Nunley – who led the team in North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) honors and earned a Women's Basketball Coaches Association 2025 All-American Honorable Mention – led the team in points, scored with 18 per game and a 78.6% field goal percentage. She was followed by fellow sophomore Kenzie Willis-Gusters with 10.2 points per game and Olivia Grgicevich Lassey with 9.5 PPG. Nunley and Lassey led the team in steals with 3.1 and 2.0, respectively. Taliah Martin controlled the paint, leading the team in blocks and rebounds.
Lassey and Martin were both freshmen and could return next year. Allen sees the potential in them and all the other freshmen who battled through this season.
"I think the big thing going into next season is we will have learned from this year. These freshmen are now going to be sophomores and will have a lot more confidence and understanding that we have to be consistent every game," Allen said.
