The No. 22 Collin College women's basketball team (21-6, 11-3) defeated Southwestern Christian College 86-79 on Feb. 28 at Collin.
KEY PLAYERS
• Ella Macleod led the team with 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting, including 1-of-4 from three-point range, and 8-of-10 from the free throw line. She added six rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block.
• Gabby Morales contributed 19 points on 9-of-19 shooting, along with three rebounds and three assists.
• Sara Basaran recorded 17 points on 4-of-11 shooting, including 1-of-3 from beyond the arc, and 8-of-10 from the free throw line. She also pulled down 15 rebounds (one offensive, 14 defensive), added two assists and one block.
• Trinity Thomas added 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting, going 1-of-2 from the free throw line. She also recorded seven rebounds, one assist and one steal.
• Abby Sokolova finished with seven points on 2-of-10 shooting, including 1-of-4 from three-point range, and 2-of-2 from the line. She added 11 rebounds (one offensive, 10 defensive) and one assist.
• Mufaro Mapengo chipped in five points on 2-of-3 shooting, with one rebound, one assist and two steals.
• Taliah Martin pulled down two rebounds in eight minutes of action and recorded one block.
GAME NOTES
• Gabby Morales recorded her fifth game this season with 20+ points. She tied her career high in rebounds in a single game (7).
• Sara Basaran recorded a career-high 15 rebounds. She also had one block, her fifth consecutive game with at least one, and recorded her eighth double-double of the season.
• Trinity Thomas scored a career-high 15 points and recorded one steal, her fifth consecutive game with at least one. She has at least one steal in all but six of her 27 games played.
• Abby Sokolova recorded a career-high 11 rebounds.
As a team, the Cougars:
• Shot 43.1% from the field (31-of-72) and 77.8% from the free throw line (21-of-27).
• Dominated the boards with 47 total rebounds (7 offensive, 40 defensive).
• Recorded 11 assists, five steals and three blocks defensively.
• Had two players scored over 20 points: Macleod (23) and Morales (19).
